It's not as if Dan thinks Marcus is about to up and leave him to his own devices, after all of this is over and whatever 'normal' life in Darrow might be resumes. But he has been preparing himself for having to leave the safety and warmth, both of which have nothing to do with fireplaces and spells, of this place.
