Ever since the afternoon at Kagura, during the run-in with the guerilla marketing strategy of very aggressive mistletoe-- one he has to admit was entirely successful-- Dan's had an idea turning over in his mind. The timing hasn't lined up exactly, and he's wanted to be sure.
He really want to be sure, because that hot little spark in Marcus's head, the one Dan could nearly taste, persists and promises. Dan knows himself to be a private person, for a million damn reasons, but it isn't as if he's not equipped to know exactly how to pull this off. What the shine can't predict, he can plan for by timing things just right.
It's early February, and they've gone out to dinner at a restaurant they've visited enough that Dan can time their meal to end about half an hour before closing. He flirts just a little more than he normally would, lets Marcus see that he has every intention of taking him home to bed immediately after dinner.
Only he doesn't.
After the check is paid, Dan rises, leaning down to kiss Marcus with the heat and urgency that's been building in him all evening. Very quietly, he murmurs, "Wait just about a minute, then meet me in the bathroom."
Mouthing buzzing, Dan heads toward the men's room, where he finds a sink to lean against and waits.

But Dan clearly has other ideas. The kiss leaves Marcus reeling, his mind absolutely tumbling over explanations before he lands on exactly what he understands Dan has planned. It makes his breath catch and he has to focus on making sure he doesn't get hard right there at the table.
Good in situations of high pressure, Marcus manages to control himself, and then, after just about a minute, as directed, he rises and casually collects his coat, walking toward the men's room without making any attempt to hide what he's doing. The more a person looks like they belong, the less likely they are to attract attention. He'd learned that long ago.
Slipping into the bathroom, Marcus stands by the door and looks at Dan, a smile at the corners of his mouth. "Well," he says. "Fancy meeting you here."

"Yeah," he breathes, "funny how that worked out."
The only reason he isn't already pulling Marcus to him is to be doubly sure that this is as welcome as he thinks it is; there are still distant voices, the sounds of a restaurant winding down for the evening.
"The door locks," he says helpfully.

But he doesn't touch Dan. Not just yet.
He leans in, bracing his hands against the sink on either side of Dan's body, still smiling. This man is incredible. Marcus hasn't been without love, he's been lucky to have experienced it in different forms, romantic, platonic, even familial, though not with his biological family. Not like this, though. Never like this.
"Was this your plan all along?" he asks in a low voice, his breath warm on Dan's cheek. "Is that why you've been so flirtatious all night?"

He licks his lips, so close he can nearly taste Marcus's skin.
"You liked the thought of it, at Kagura," he says, very quietly, one arm wrapping around Marcus's waist and the other smoothing over his stomach, sweeping down, palming him through fabric with unmistakable intention. "I liked it too. Liked it in the corn field, liked it at Kagura, so I did some planning."
Turning his face just so, he scrapes his teeth along the hinge of Marcus's jaw.

Dan simply knows him. And he knows Dan.
His hands come off the sink and his arms curl around Dan, palms pressed to the small of his back to pull him close.
